Social media has turned pink and green with all the excitement around the new Wicked film.
The blockbuster has been a huge talking point on TikTok where there have been more than a million posts using the #Wicked hashtag – ranging from people recreating dance choreography from the film to making memes inspired by the cast's press interviews and getting excited about all the Wicked-themed products that brands have launched.
The dance sequence in What Is This Feeling? has gone viral with people suggesting it's the "best dance" in the film and admiring how Ariana Grande makes it look "so easy" in her role as Glinda.
People are copying how she dances with a book, like dancer Nick Alvino who jokes that this is how he'll go to every class from now on:
Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero, is also inspiring TikTokers to copy his "iconic" choreography in Dancing Through Life.
Fans are obsessing over him, saying things like "There will always be space in my heart and mind for Jonathan Bailey" and "I was at the cinema today and when he appeared you could hear a collective gasp throughout the entire theatre".
There's been lots of reaction to the various media interviews Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have done to promote the film – and especially the phrase "holding space for Defying Gravity".
In an interview with Out.com the stars were talking about the depth of the relationship between their characters Elphaba and Glinda and the importance of Defying Gravity to the LGBTQ+ community.
This interview became an instant meme after interviewer Tracy E. Gilchrist said: "I’ve seen this week people are taking the lyrics of Defying Gravity and really holding space with that and feeling power in that." People struggled to understand what this meant and took to TikTok to make jokes and share examples of how they're "holding space".
Another interview clip, where Erivo and Grande tell an interviewer that "You have been the light of the day", has also been a source of memes.
People are picking up on the unique way they've conducted interviews – so much so that there are parodies of "Every Wicked movie interview".
Even weeks before the film came out in cinemas, TikTok was filled with fans getting excited about all the Wicked products being sold in shops – including a Betty Crocker cake mix which comes in green or pink.
